E-steps · flow

3D printer calibration calculator

Three calibrations that fix most dimensional and extrusion problems. Measure how much filament your extruder really pushes and get the new E-steps for Marlin (with the command to send) or rotation_distance for Klipper. Measure a thin wall to correct the flow rate, and a calibration cube to find the scale that cancels shrinkage.

Private: your files never leave your device.

Calibrate

Heat the nozzle, mark the filament 120 mm above the extruder, extrude 100 mm slowly (G1 E100 F100), then measure from the extruder to the mark.

Send these lines from a terminal (Pronterface, OctoPrint, Mainsail). M500 saves them. Repeat once to confirm.

How to use Printer calibration calculator

  1. Step 1: Pick E-steps, Flow rate or Size & shrinkage and follow the short instructions.

  2. Step 2: Enter your current setting and what you measured with calipers.

  3. Step 3: Copy the new value or command into your printer or slicer.

Frequently asked questions

In which order should I calibrate?

E-steps first (the extruder itself), then flow rate per filament, then dimensional scale if parts are still slightly off.

Do I need to calibrate E-steps on a Bambu Lab or Prusa printer?

Usually not — they’re calibrated at the factory. Flow rate per filament is still worth doing.

Why do my parts come out smaller?

Plastic shrinks as it cools — ABS, ASA and nylon more than PLA. The Size & shrinkage tab gives the scale to set in your slicer.
