Frequently asked questions

How is net salary calculated in Georgia?

The 2% pension contribution is deducted first, then 20% income tax is charged on the rest. On 3,000 ₾ gross: 60 ₾ pension, 20% of 2,940 = 588 ₾ tax, so 2,352 ₾ take-home (78.4%). Without the pension it’s 80%: 2,400 ₾.

How do I get the gross salary from the net?

Divide the net by 0.784 if you pay the pension, or by 0.8 if you don’t. To take home 2,000 ₾ you need about 2,551 ₾ gross.

Who has to pay the 2% pension?

It’s compulsory for employees who were under 40 when the funded pension started on 1 January 2019, and optional for those who were older. The employer adds another 2% and the state up to 2% more.

Is the employer’s 2% taken from my salary?

No. The employer pays its 2% on top of your gross salary, so a 3,000 ₾ salary costs the employer 3,060 ₾.
