Remove background noise from audio and video
Make a voice clear when the recording picked up a fan, air conditioning, traffic, a computer hum or a noisy room. Toola runs RNNoise, a neural network made for separating speech from noise, on your own device. Listen to the original and the cleaned version while it plays, lower the strength if the voice sounds too dry, and save a WAV or MP3, or the video with clean sound.
Private: your files never leave your device.
Audio or video up to 20 minutes. The noise is removed on your device; nothing is uploaded.
How to use Remove background noise
Step 1: Add a recording or video (up to 20 minutes).
Step 2: Listen and switch between Original and Cleaned; adjust the strength.
Step 3: Save as WAV, MP3 or the video with clean sound.
What noise removal can and can't do
RNNoise is a small neural network trained to tell a human voice from everything else, frame by frame. It works best on steady noise and is careful with the voice itself.
| Noise | Result |
|---|---|
| Fan, air conditioning, computer hum, hiss | Removed almost completely |
| Traffic, wind, rain, crowd in the distance | Much quieter |
| Music or TV in the background | Turned down, but words in it may stay |
| Echo in an empty room | Not removed: it is part of the voice |
| Someone else talking | Kept: it is also a voice |
A clean voice in three steps
- Remove the noise here, at 80–100% strength.
- Shape the tone with the Voice equalizer: a high-pass filter at 80 Hz and a small cut where it sounds boxy.
- Set the final loudness with Change volume.
For a video, save it as Video with the clean sound: the picture is copied without re-encoding, so it's quick and loses no quality.
Frequently asked questions
What noise can it remove?
Steady and background noise: fans, air conditioning, hum, hiss, traffic, wind and room chatter. It is made for speech, so it also turns down music and other sounds that aren't a voice.
Will it work on music?
No. It keeps speech and treats almost everything else as noise, so it isn't suitable for songs or instruments.
The voice sounds a little thin. What can I do?
Lower the strength to 70–85% to keep some of the room, then shape the tone with the Voice equalizer.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. Cleaning, playback and saving all happen on your device.
