How do I convert MPG to L/100 km?
For US MPG divide 235.2 by the MPG: 30 MPG is 7.84 L/100 km. For UK (imperial) MPG divide 282.5 by the MPG. The same formula works backwards.
Why are US and UK MPG different?
A UK (imperial) gallon is 4.546 litres, a US gallon only 3.785 litres, so the same car shows about 20% more MPG in the UK.
Is a higher number better?
For MPG and km per litre, higher is better. For L/100 km, lower is better — it’s fuel used, not distance travelled.
