Extract text from a PDF

Get the text out of a PDF as a plain .txt file — to paste into an email or a translator, count words, search it or feed it into another tool. Choose clean paragraphs (lines joined, hyphenated words repaired) or the lines exactly as they are in the PDF, with or without page markers. Nothing is uploaded.

Private: your files never leave your device.

How to use PDF to text

  1. Step 1: Add one or more PDF files.

  2. Step 2: Choose paragraphs or original lines, and whether to mark the pages.

  3. Step 3: Press Start and download the .txt files.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the text out of order?

PDFs store text as positioned pieces, not as a flow. Most documents come out in reading order; complex layouts with several columns, text boxes or tables can come out mixed.

Why is the result empty?

The PDF is probably a scan — a picture of text. Use image to text (OCR), which reads scans in Georgian, English and Russian.

Does it keep Georgian text?

Yes. The file is saved as UTF-8, so Georgian and every other script come out correctly.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The text is read in your browser.
