Frequently asked questions
Is there any quality loss?
Not in Fast mode when the video is already H.264 — the video is copied as it is. Re-encoding (for HEVC or when you choose Maximum compatibility) uses high quality settings that look the same in practice.
Why do iPhone videos need re-encoding?
Recent iPhones record HEVC (H.265), which some Windows PCs, TVs and websites can’t play. Converting to H.264 makes the MP4 play everywhere.
How big can the video be?
Up to 2 GB on most computers. Copying is fast; re-encoding runs at roughly the video’s own length on a laptop.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser with ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly.
